Everyone knows rice is the main food served on the table whether at home, restaurants or even some of the fast food places around the World.

Asian countries meals cannot be completed without rice on the table like Philippines, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, China and many more places . Even now days where, “there are many foods, varieties and option to eat”..

There are many varieties of food that could be replaces by rice like noodles, sweet potatoes, potatoes, corns, breads and so on.

I am sure not to many people .are aware of how difficult to plants and grows “palay”. Palay means rice that has not been husked.

To grow palay you needed a huge field or a farm. It needed a constant rain or irrigation. Irrigation means the supply of water to the lands or crops, especially in the early stage of the crops. Then farmers tend to observed the crops, if there are some bugs or insects hanging around it and needed to address those insects. After a month or so a farmers sprayed nutrients for the crops then when the baby husk started showing. Farmers add some types of chemical compound to make the crops fully blooms and turned into palay. Three months or so, the crops is ready to harvest.

Difficult tasks for the farmers is not over yet. Farmers needed machine and more people to harvest the palay. Including carrying sacks of sacks of palay. Drying the palay for 3 straight days in hot sunlight. And taking the palay in the mills. A palay mills is a facility that process palay or unhusked to become actually rice.

In the old days, there’s only one type of rice and it’s just whit rice. But through the years farmers produces several grains of rice like sweet rice, Jasmin rice, long rice, short rice, white rice and brown rice.

Countries like Thailand has many different color of rice. They got yellow, blue, green, black, red, and white rices. I am not sure, “if it is natural color or they added color on it to have variety color on the rice.

How to cook rice?

Rinse rice few times and while rinsing in running water using strainer, massage it gently. Due to many varieties of it and depending on how hard it is, some rice were very hard. And needed to soaked with water for 15 minutes to an hour before cooking to get the best texture, get to enjoy and savor to eat. Some rice were easy to cook and don’t have to soak in water before cooking.

My own observation was even though its kind of long, difficult and hard task to produce rice. Some people don’t tend to finished the last grains of rice on their plates. I hope more and more people around the world would considered the hardship that the farmers went through to produce the rice.

How to store rice properly?

Keep it in a close tight container or barrel. Keep it in a dry cool place, away from heat, sunlight. Sealed the cover tight so bugs couldn’t get into it.Uncooked rice won’t changed scent, color and texture when stored properly and has a life of a year or so.

I hope this blog will helps and guides us become more considerate in any field or situation in life whether its small or big.
